Cat vs. Mouse, Cat wins!

Every once in a while a mouse strolls into our farm house. One of our cats is a true hunter. Watch him capture a mouse, play with it and ultimately devour it. (Warning. . kinda gross)

I'm a veterinary student and we just studied this . . . a domestic cat does not naturally know that it is supposed to kill its prey so it plays with it and more often than not, it accidently kills it. Only feral or big cats know to kill prey by instinct. =)

aah that´s a proud cat...they are such wonderful creatures...one of my mothers cats, kills and places dead mice outside her door almost every night..sometimes he lays mice that is half alive in her shoes..and sometimes he gives the dog a dead mouse to play with (yes the dog does play with it)...and he is sooo proud when my mother notice his "gifts"...he always gets an reward...sometimes he kills other things than mice and rats...squirrels (just the tail left)..lizards...birds...snakes...

you should reward the cat if it kills vermin and brings it to you. I know I do with mine. It's a way of saying thanks for doing a job that most humans do not want to do. I hope to train my cat not to eat his prey though because invariably he'll end up puking most of it up.

Cats hunting skills are a joy to behold. Be it a domestic cat hunting a mouse up to a tiger stalking a deer, they are incredible. And domestic cats keep a lid on the rodent problems aswell as being a beautfiful and clean pet. I dont really know why they 'play' with their prey. I've seen my cat do it with dead and injured victims of his. Someone told me they could be 'softening it up' by knocking it around before they eat it, though often they dont even eat it so i'm not sure about this theory...

Cats are one of nature's deadliest hunters, they can hunt around 1000 species, from bugs to lizards, rats, birds and so on. They surpass by far the rest of the members of the feline family.
